Pastor Maldonado hopes for competitive 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado says that he is hoping for a competitive 2012 Monaco Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27.
Maldonado set the fifth best time of 1 minute and 16.820 seconds during the second free practice session on Thursday. He expressed that he is feeling very much pleased with the performance of the car during the practice sessions.
However, he said that they could not be able to gather the desired level of information during the FP2 because of limited running due to the rain. Nevertheless, he said that they are expecting to gather the necessary data in P3 on Saturday. He added that
they are positively looking forward for a strong race ahead.
“The car is feeling really good this year and looks competitive in the running we have done today, so we're happy with that,” he said. “It's a shame we didn't get to run as much during the afternoon, as we would have liked to have gathered a bit more data
on the tyres but we still have P3 on Saturday. I love this circuit and think it's going to be a competitive grand prix.”
On the other hand, the chief technical officer, Mark Gillan said that they are in a very good position for the race. Nonetheless, he said that they still need to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations so as to improve their pace
in the approaching races.
He added, “Both drivers were happier with the car balance in the second session but we still have quite a bit more to do in preparation for Sunday.”
The Venezuelan driver took his maiden victory in the last race held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona after claiming his first ever pole.
Furthermore, he is currently standing at ninth place in the drivers’ championship with 29 points.
Besides, he is 7 points ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari and 6 points behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
Over and above, he is targeting to win more races in future so as to make his position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
