Pastor Maldonado says Williams F1 aims to be more competitive next year – Formula 1 news
Williams F1 driver, Pastor Maldonado, has stated that the team is focusing on becoming more competitive in the 2013 F1 season.
“The goal is to be more competitive next year and have a car that is consistently in the points and challenging for podiums,” Maldonado said. “This year we showed excellent pace at a number of tracks such as Barcelona, Monaco and Abu Dhabi, but we didn't
have the consistency to maintain that at every grand prix. We have all the tools needed to push the top teams, and hopefully we can learn from this year and move further up the field.”
The driver told that the team has an amazing history in the sport which makes it an honour for him to be driving for them. He said that even though they have not achieved the success they wanted in the past few years but he thinks that Williams F1 will make
a breakthrough soon and he wants to be a part of it when it does.
Maldonado said that his long-term ambition is to win the F1 championship with his current team and see his name alongside some of the greatest drivers. He told that he is quite motivated by his race win this year and wants to repeat it soon.
The driver won the Grand Prix in Spain this season which is the team’s first race victory since the F1 season of 2004.
The team has announced to replace Bruno Senna with their test driver Valtteri Bottas for the upcoming season. Bottas will be making his full time F1 driver debut with the team while he was contracted to drive Senna’s car for fifteen practice sessions this
season.
Bottas said that his main objective is to improve his driving and that his testing has provided him knowledge on most of the tracks which will be of immense help to him.
The executive director of Williams F1, Toto Wolff, has said that he trusts Bottas to bring improvement in the team and expects him to score reasonable race points. Wolff has also dismissed speculations that replacing Senna will hurt the team financially.
