Moreover, the veteran German driver stayed ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber who came 4th in the timesheets and was followed by Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
The French driver remained ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who was further followed by Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso.
Jenson Button of McLaren who set the early pace could only come 8th in the timesheets and covered 16 laps. Furthermore, he was followed by Mark Webber who came 9th and stayed ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
The Finnish driver was followed by Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso who came 11th in the timesheets and completed 26 laps.
Felipe Massa of Ferrari seemed comfortable behind the wheel of his car. However, he could only set the 12th best time and covered 15 laps. The Brazilian driver remained ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who covered 24 laps and gathered some essential

The Japanese driver was followed by Marussia pair of drivers, Charles Pic and Timo Glock who stayed ahead of Bruno Senna of Williams.
Senna remained ahead of Heikki Kovalainen of Caterham who was further followed by Paul di Resta of Force India. Besides, the British driver stayed ahead of his compatriot, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who completed 16 laps.
The current leader in the drivers’ championship, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari came 20th in the timesheets. Nonetheless, he covered 20 laps and was quite successful in collecting the necessary information about the upgrades in F2012.
The Spaniard was followed by Vitaly Petrov of Caterham who remained ahead of Narain Karthikeyan of HRT. The Indian driver stood ahead of Michael Schumacher of Mercedes who unfortunately crashed at turn 12 just four minutes before the end of the session.
