Pastor Maldonado vows to perform at his best in Formula 1
Williams recently revealed officially that the Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado, who won the GP2 championship, has signed with the team and will replace Nico Hulkenberg for the 2011 Formula 1 season. The team revealed that they are done with the paperwork
and it is finally official. However, Nico Hulkenberg is now team-less once again even though he gave a good debut performance with the team, including the only pole position for the team.
Pastor Maldonado stated that he is more determined than he was ever before in his life and hopes to give Williams the possible result in 2011. Pastor’s family is very passionate about motorsports as his uncle and father were a part of it and he believes
that he has inherited this talent from them.
“When I was about three or four years old I said I wanted to race but I was too young, then when I reached the age of seven my father gave me a kart and we started from there. From that moment until now we have never stopped,” he said.
However, all that matters now for Williams is that the GP2 champion gives them the best possible result. According to some rumours, Pastor brought a major Venezuelan sponsor from PDVSA along with him which is considered to be one of the main reasons why
the team signed him. But it seems that this decision might help Williams more than we think it will as Maldonado seems to be even more determined than Nico currently.
“GP2 is a very good championship; it really prepares drivers well for F1. I have worked very hard to get to this position and yes, I definitely feel ready. Williams does an amazing job. It is unbelievable to be here and to be part of the team. It is a dream,”
said Pastor.
It would be interesting to see how the young GP2 champion begins his Formula 1 career and competes against the best drivers this world has to offer.
“I just want to do my best, to be as close to the top as I can and to get the maximum out of the car. The team are working very hard and I need to push to be at the top as soon as possible. I am a rookie but that isn't going to be a problem. I need to keep
focussed and to do my job,” he said.
