Pastor Maldonado wants Williams to improve qualifying pace for 2012 Spanish GP – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado has said that they need to focus on improving their pace in the qualifying so as to come stronger in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
The British team is presently standing at 7th place in the constructors’ championship with 18 points. Moreover, they are one point ahead of Force India and are 13 points behind Sauber-Ferrari.
It will be important to mention that they have been seen struggling with their performance in the qualifying in the season so far as they have not been able to make their way into Q3 except from the season opener in which Maldonado qualified for 8th grid position. Contrarily, their race pace has been comparatively much better as they have secured three top eight positions until now.
Therefore, the Venezuelan driver said that they should target to improve their pace in the qualifying because if they take a start from the front of the grid, they can manage to secure relatively better finish.
He added that he wanted to be at competitive grid position in order to score more points. He also said that they have the capabilities to strive for a better place in the upcoming European season setting off in Barcelona.
“Personally I've been concentrating on improving for qualifying,” he said. “Because starting from the back it's always difficult to overtake, it's always difficult to make a good strategy because of the traffic and because of many things. Personally I want to start from the front and to do a good race. I think we have the pace to be competitive and to fight for a good place. I think we need to be more focused on qualifying because we know how the car is working in the race and we need to keep this because we are quite strong.”
Over and above, Williams are making the best of the efforts to make the substantial developments and the essential preparations for the races ahead with an aim to improve their overall performance to come up well prepared for the approaching season.
