Pastor Maldonado will hopefully stay at Williams in 2013 – Formula 1
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado is hopefully going to stay in his current team in 2013 despite struggling in most of the races during 2012 Formula 1 season so far.
Maldonado has been surrounded by immense criticism over his aggressive driving style due to which he has caused many accidents in the ongoing season.
It will be important to note that he claimed an impressive victory in the Spanish Grand Prix after securing his first ever pole position. Furthermore, he became the first ever Venezuelan driver who scored a grand prix win in F1. However, there have been
a lot of speculations that he may not be able to continue in the British squad in the next season.
Meanwhile, the executive director of Williams, Toto Wolff said that although their next year’s driver line-up is still open but they have not yet made any firm decision in this regard. In addition, he said that they need some more time to think over their
coming season’s driver line-up.
“We are taking different looks at the issue, but the minute we discuss it we are going to mess up Pastor and Bruno – and maybe others that we try talking to,” Wolff told www.formula1.com. “I would give it another month before we are going to have the first
idea of what we want.”
On the other hand, the founder and principal of the Grove based team, Frank Williams expressed that he wants the 27-year-old in his team in the next season. Besides, he said that they are looking forward to make some significant developments in their car
so as to be able to secure a good position in the next year’s constructors’ championship.
“In 2013 we will have a carry-over of the car so I'd like to see us in the points more regularly. Pastor hopefully stays with us and has learned his lessons – so the next logical step would be the top six in the constructors' – or even top five,” he said.
The future of Maldonado seems bright as he has been given full support from his team and it will be exciting to see how he shows up in the remainder of the season.
