Pastor Neil Craigan to continue with marathon races for helping children - Athletics news
Ever since people have started to know marathon races, they have been organising it for various purposes. Some have been doing it for the sole and universal idea of promoting this very discipline of athletics to attract more and more people towards this
healthy activity, while others have been doing it for grabbing the attention of people, which is later on utilised to involve them in different constructive activities.
One such person, who has thought of running marathon races, is Pastor Neil Craigan, as he is using the sport for inspiring spectators to donate money for destitute children being taken care of by different churches, NGOs and community based organisations.
For a pastor, marathon indeed is a big distance to run, perhaps that is why when tired after finishing off the race, Neil expressed his feelings by saying, “(this was) the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”
However, satisfied with the cause he is trying to fulfil, he also expressed the resolve to continue with running marathon races, as this had proved to be effective in sensitising the common populace for making efforts to address the needs of those that belonged
to marginalised sections of the society.
Providing the details of his running experience, Craigan wrote in a blog, “there were kids all along the roadside just past the aid stations asking for juice and pop from runners as they came by. They were just delighted when I gave them a sachet of Energade.
You realize how little some of the people in these rural areas have.”
The efforts put in by Neil along with six of his colleagues from World Vision, paid dividends as they successfully raised sponsorships for 46 children. Now with the aim to carry on with their efforts, the group aims to earn sponsorships for 100 children.
While running the race, the pastor strived for hitting the finishing line and he crossed it in eleven hours and 21 minutes. Though he had planned to finish it early, but since the track was a bit hilly, it took him and the other six runners a bit longer
than decided.
