Pat Burrell leads San Francisco Giants past Texas Rangers 4-1 – MLB Update
Pat Burrell outclassed the opponent’s pitchers as San Francisco Giants overpowered Texas Rangers 4-1 in their twelfth Cactus League game on Monday, March 7 at Scottsdale Stadium.
Giants improved their winning record by adding one more win to their 9-3 win-loss table, while Texas failed to repeat their wining momentum that they acquired against Milwaukee Brewers defeating them with an 8-1 margin.
The game was in the Rangers’ favour with a 1-0 lead until Giants bounced back in fifth inning and posted 4-1 unexpected win. The dramatic change occurred when Burrell landed in field and posted two-run home-run. Cody Ross, who posted two runs with a two
out singles in fifth inning, accompanied Burrell. Giants made all of their runs off pitcher Tommy Hunter who had five runs in three innings.
Jonathan Sanchez was the only pitcher for Rangers who resisted with his strong pitches. In his third Cactus League appearance, left-hander Sanchez was alone in Giants’ line-up to pitch in four innings in this Spring Training.
Rangers were only able to score in second innings when Yorvit Torrealba doubled a run. However, there was one player, Alexi Ogando in Rangers squad, who was marvelous as he struck-out four batters in his three innings. Though Tommy struck-out three in three
innings, due to given runs he was not considered efficient.
The Giants and Rangers met in the first of two meetings this spring. San Francisco won both of games against Texas Rangers last spring and hold an overall 15-7 edge in regular season play. The Rangers and Giants were squared off in Scottsdale for the first
time since meeting in 2010 World Series. San Francisco had won the Fall Classic in five games to win the franchise’s first World Series title since 1954.
The Giants will meet the Seattle Mariners for their next CL game Tuesday at Peoria Stadium. The World Series Champions will start with left-hander Jason Vegas who will compete with right-hander Ryan Vogelsong.
The Rangers will play their next spring game against the Los Angeles Angels Tuesday at Anaheim Stadium. Rangers will land their right-handed pitcher Eric Hurley against the Angels’ right-hander Ervin Santana.
