Pat Burrell rejoins San Francisco Giants for 1 more year
Pat Burrell is considered a Philadelphian veteran the left field player had played for the Phillies for 9 years before he moved to the Tampa Bay Rays.
After 1 and a half years, San Francisco Giants snatched him up from the market to place him in the outfield. Now looking back at the season, which saw the player take part in the World Series, it can be said that he did well during his tenure in the National
League West.
The Giants have been doing well so far and though they have lost influence in the infield, in the form of Juan Uribe, their management is looking to sign in cheap experienced players, who will support the original team structure in 2011.
The World Series triumph sees the side doing well in the coming months and this means they will be majorly targeted by the top clubs in the league. The pressure to excel again will sweep in soon after April sees the on-field season turn a new leaf in Major
League Baseball.
One thing is for sure though, Aubrey Huff and Pat Burrell are now back in the Giants’ roster. The two veterans are the only players, who have come back from the free agency. With Edgar Renteria still out in the market, it seems General Manager, Brian Sabean,
is looking to see the club cut ties off with veterans leaking the club’s financial resources.
Burrell, who has signed on for one more year will not get the kind of action he did last year, when he started 86 fixtures on the left field. It’s widely expected the experienced ballplayer will come to the side as a top replacement for the youthful squad
members.
Pat was efficient last season as he averaged .252 with the bat. In addition, he slammed out, 20 home runs. Furthermore, he drove in 64 runs. His slugging percentage was on .469.
In 2010, Pat earned a salary of $9 million and that brings forth the question of how much he will make in 2011. Burrell was immensely popular during the regular season but he failed to impress during the post season as his hitting rate went down to .143.
He was struck out 11 times by the Texas Rangers and he rested on a 0 – 13 at bats.
His role will be defined during the next season. It has to be seen where the veteran will play, given his familiarity with the left field position
