Pat Cummins does not want to rush back to Test cricket - Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins, Australia’s latest fast bowling sensation, is not too desperate to make a Test return and understands that he will have to take care of his body in order to have a long international career.
The 19-year-old cricketer, having impressed the selectors at the junior level as well in the Sheffield Shield games, made his Test debut last year against South Africa at Johannesburg. The fast bowler impressed one and all with his additional pace
and bounce in his very first match, picking up seven wickets against a strong Proteas’ batting line-up.
However, that Test remains the only five-day match he has played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 so far because of fitness issues. Cummins has already gone through a couple of serious injuries in his career, which is the reason why the Aussie selectors are extremely
careful about playing the youngster, rotating him amongst other fast bowlers.
Cummins is going to represent Sydney Sixers in the Champions League T20 2012, currently being played in South Africa. It means that the fast bowler will not have too many first-class games back home before the Test series against South Africa commences.
The New South Welshmen wants to play some four-day matches before returning to the highest stage of the game.
"I wouldn't want to go into a Test match without playing too much, at least there's three or four blokes ahead of me anyway," said Cummins. "I haven't played with a red ball for 12 months. I'd say the first couple of games very unlikely."
The speedster represented the Baggy Greens in the just-finished http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012 in Sri Lanka, picking up six wickets in as many matches.
Taking into account the different nature of pitches in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, Cummins believes that he has the license to bowl fast.
"For me in Sri Lanka, I tried to bowl a lot of slower balls because the decks are a bit slow; over here it's just rip in and try and bowl fast and see what happens. I think the ball's going to fly over here a bit more than in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758,” the rookie
added.
