Pat Cummins hopeful of comeback for Hobart Test – Cricket News Update
Australia’s rising fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, saying that he has been recovering well from his heel injury.
It was a dream debut for the 18-year-old fast bowler who broke into national Test squad following his magnificent show in limited-over cricket. In the second game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Johannesburg, Cummins grabbed seven wickets, including his six-wicket
haul in the second innings.
However, while displaying a thrilling performance in his first appearance, the sensational bowler injured his left heel, and as a result, he has been ruled out of the first Test against the Black Caps, starting from December 1, 2011 at Brisbane.
Not saddened by his fitness problems that made him wait for his first 5-day game on home soil, Cummins shared that he will be available for the Hobart encounter, as he is feeling a lot better.
"That's the aim (returning for Hobart). I probably could have tried to rush back for the next Test but it's all about managing it for the summer. It's not a long-term injury, it's a really minor injury and it should be a matter of days as opposed to weeks,"
Cummins told reporters in Sydney.
With the second and the final Test getting underway from December 9, Cummins has a week to rest and subsequently start his practice. Cummins’ selection for the Tests is already under fire, as the young lad, who has played in just four first class matches,
does not have much experience in the longer format of the game.
Thus, the national selectors choose not to take any risk by picking him for the opening contest, despite the fact that it is not a serious heel injury.
Admitting that it was team management’s decision not to select him, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 paceman explained, "They (the selectors) are really looking to manage me. (I) got a scan last week just to make sure it wasn't anything too serious and it was pretty
much only a bruising of the heel. Once it fully recovers you are at no more risk than I was before."
