Dogged by injuries, Australia’s teenage sensation has hinted that he might opt out of the fifth edition of the lucrative Indian Premier League in order to focus on his career with the national team.
The 18-year-old is nursing a foot injury which he sustained during his memorable debut Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, where he picked up a total of seven wickets and made a crucial unbeaten 13 in the second innings to help his team win the second Test by 2 wickets.
He however, missed the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and consequently was ruled out of the ongoing clashes against the Men In Blue. His most likely return could be the fourth Test, which will begin in the final week of January.
Despite his tender age, the player is taking nothing for granted and wants to solely focus on his Test career, rather than running for lucrative T20 deals. With injuries remaining a big concern, the player feels that opting out of the IPL auction might be a positive move for him in terms of enhancing his bout with the Kangaroos national team.
"It probably does. I've said the whole time that playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 is my number one goal, commented Cummins. "I don't want anything to impact on that. Looking to the future, I might have to reassess my options."
In his short career, the player has featured in 3 One Day Internationals, while has also taken part in two T20s. With age on his side, he can forego the riches of the T20 for some time and get fit for the rigors of the five-day game.
He however, is expected to feature in the KFC Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixers, once he regains full fitness.
"Even if I didn't have the injury, this is always something that will cause debate. I'm still young, and I'd love to play as many Tests as possible. But it (Twenty20) is only four overs a game," Cummins was quoted as saying in the 'Australian Associated Press'.
Despite the rise of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653, Cummins will be looking to make a swift return to the Test side and become the leader of the Australian attack for many years to come.
