Pat Fry: Fernando Alonso has managed well while Felipe Massa still struggling – Formula 1 news
Ferrari technical director, Pat Fry has said that Fernando Alonso has managed well to bring the best out of this year’s car F2012 while he said that Felipe Massa is still struggling to find suitable balance, after the opening two races of 2012 Formula 1
season.
“The car is quite difficult to drive and Fernando has managed to get the most out of it, while with Felipe, we have struggled to find the right balance to keep him happy,” Fry said.
Alonso won the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia and secured fifth place finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia.
The Spaniard is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 35 points while his teammate, Massa has not been able to score even a single point in the season until now.
It will be important to mention that there have been many discussions regarding Massa’s replacement with Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari who secured an amazing second podium finish in the Malaysian GP.
Nevertheless, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali said that they are ready to provide Massa everything which he will need to improve his performance.
Moreover, Massa also changed his plan of going to see his family in Brazil after the second race and headed towards team’s factory in Maranello to work with the engineers in order to identify and rectify the mistakes being done in the first two races of
the season.
Besides, Fry said that they are prepared to bring five updates in F2012 at the third race which will improve the pace of the car while they have planned to come up with the major upgrades ahead of Spanish GP.
He added that they are trying at their best to make the essential advancements and the necessary preparations for the season ahead to improve their performance in certain areas.
“We are constantly working on improving the issues we have,” said Fry. “New parts are coming through and we are trying to get them to the race track as quickly as possible - We will have five updates for China, some are quite visible others less so. Then
there will be a bigger upgrade package for Spain.”
