Pat Fry believes some updates seem positive for 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry has said that they are feeling positive about some of their updates for 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but believes that they still need to make further evaluations to draw conclusion about them.
Fernando Alonso of the Scarlet team could only set the 7th best time in the second free practice session at Yas Marina Circuit and was followed by his teammate, Felipe Massa.
On the other hand, Alonso’s main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing topped the timesheets in FP2. However, Fry thinks that they are still feeling confident about some of the upgrades but insisted that they are looking forward to make further assessment
before the qualifying in order to make the final decision about their update package.
“We are pushing as hard as we can to bring updates to every race,” Fry said. “Some of the ones we introduced here seem to be positive, but we must carefully evaluate their performance and then decide which to use in qualifying and the race. Felipe's long
run didn't seem too bad, but clearly we have to improve our performance over a single lap if we want to start from the front row of the grid.”
In addition, he said that they are trying their best to make the necessary developments in their car so as to attain better results in the remaining three grands prix of the ongoing season.
It will be important to mention that the Spaniard was quite reluctant in expressing his views regarding the updates in his car after the Friday practice. Nonetheless, he said that they have gathered some valuable information about the aerodynamics and tyre
management during the two practice sessions.
“The day just ended was a Friday like any other, during which we got through everything on our programme,” the 31-year-old said.
Besides, he said that he is hoping to see improvements in his car’s pace in the third practice session and the qualifying and is aiming to attain competitive result in this weekend’s race.
Let’s see how the two-time world champion performs in the forthcoming races.
