Pat McAfee issues apology to Indianapolis Colts fans
Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee described the episode that had him arrested, and out of the Colts lineup for their last game, as "embarassing" and vowed that it would never happen again.
In McAfee's first comments made to the public regarding the incident he said, "Obviously I made a dumb decision on a night when things got out of control," McAfee said. "I will never put my team or my family through this kind of embarrassment again."
McAfee was arrested two weeks ago for public intoxication after going for a dip in a nearby canal with his blood alcohol level up near 0.15. A passing motorist called police when McAfee approached her car, and believed McAfee was trying to get inside.
In his short interview with reporters, McAfee reputedly used the verb "embarass" nine times, as the description from the police report on his case was a regular source for parody on talk shows and radio broadcasts over the past two weeks.
The incident even led to team president, Bill Polian, suspending McAfee for the Colts' game last week against the Houston Texans.
"I've put our team in a horrible light, in a horrible fashion and I was embarrassed as much as they were and whatever they decided, that's their job," McAfee said. "My job is to play, and I was willing to accept any penalty because I was the one that made
the horrible decision."
"I've always said if you're a professional athlete, you have a chance to be on a pedestal whether you like it or not, you can use it the right way or the wrong way and in this situation, I was a complete letdown to a lot of people and a lot of fans and most
importantly the kids that look up to me. I'm going to continue the good things that I do for this community and the good things that I do in this city because I really do I love this city, I love this team and I love our fans more than anything."
