Pat Richards – Rugby Man of Steel for the Season
Rugby is a game of sheer toughness as well as stamina and Pat Richards from the Wigan Warriors has shown his capacity and toughness quite bluntly. The 28-year-old Australian has been named as this year’s super league man of steel.
At present, the Wigan Warriors are sailing smoothly and leading the league points’ table. Several awards were distributed at Monday’s gala dinner. The veteran coach, Michael Maguire was awarded the coach of the year award whereas Sam Tomkins won the young
player of the year award. The grand finalists of the super league rugby, Wigan Warriors also were named as the club of the year.
This has been a fantastic year for the Australian goal kicking winger as he has showed his best form and was thus awarded the biggest man of steel of the year award. Tomkins along with Adrian Morley were also nominated for the award as they too have displayed
the best of form throughout this season but Pat Richards made much stronger impact as compared to both of them.
Pat is the fifth Australian to have bagged such an award. This gives him a much stronger representation in the rugby world while also boosting his confidence. His performance has been brilliant throughout the season from goal kicking to point scoring and
he has clutched 388 points with his daring and dedicated game.
But still, Pat Richards doesn’t seem satisfied. He termed his current performance as not the best one but said that he remained consistent which was encouraging. He added that this season has been a lucky one for him and he just tried to give in his best.
The goal-kicking Australian maintained that his team has some brilliant players such as Sam Tomkins and Sean O Loughlin, but he just got lucky to impress the judges for the prestigious award.
The gala dinner marked this season’s final. Awards were also presented to Keiron Cunningham; St. Helen skipper, Malcolm Alker; Salford captain and Jason Demetriou; Wakefield captain.
