  1. HAHA, funny!!

I think my daddy's going to win it now!!!

  2. Spanking- I personally don't think it's a good parenting idea, but I won't get into that. The other abuse though... Really. It's just youth sports. They don't have to make it to the NHL to succeed in life, a message this guy apparently didn't get.  You're pretty much a failure in life if you think that your kids have to make up for your own inadequacies in sports, and that if they don't perform they must be punished.

They're kids! Youth sports is supposed to be about fun, not trying to make it to the bigs. Save that for junior.

Throwing medicine balls at kids because they were worn out is not acceptable. And I'm sure there's more...

  3. Only hear the media's side of the story. His kids might be little whiny punks, that think because of there name they don't have to work hard. who know's though

  4. How do you spank someone while driving?

Though honestly... I think it's awful.  Ask any behavioralist (of which I kinda qualify), and that will probably just get someone to (a) despise you,  (b) despise the sport/training, and (c) act out against you and your wishes.

Plus, that absolutely qualifies as abuse (throwing medicine balls at kids is just unacceptable, and goes beyond normal discipline methods)... hopefully he will become a better parent with counseling.  His kids deserve better.

EDIT:  Lubers, personally, I disagree with spanking as a form of punishment, but I agree with everything else you said... nice answer.  The kids were not misbehaving, nor is that appropriate for children of that age... they didn't even go through puberty yet, for cryin' out loud.  They shouldn't be worked that hard.

  5. He disciplined his son, I don't see anything wrong with that.

  6. What a douche.  Disciplining your children is one thing, throwing a medicine ball at them is another.  What kind of goober makes his 9 and 11 year old kids do interval training????  Kids aren't supposed to run on treadmills, they're supposed to run OUTSIDE WHILE PLAYING.

  7. I don't know what to think any more. His methods are not abuse, but his motivation was.

Sidenote, I wonder if they call Pat,  Uncle Little Ball of Hate.

  8. The spanking I don't have much of a problem with.  The other stuff is ridiculous.

  9. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest.  Parents like that are the reason I quit coaching hockey, however I don't think the spanking was out of line.  The kid flipped someone the bird which was completely out of line.  The rest of it appears to be over the line.  Discipline for misbehavior, no problem.  For not wanting to run on a treadmill and not meeting the times expected in interval training?  That's over the line.  They are 9 and 11 for god's sake.  Let the kids play and enjoy the game at that age.

Gonchar: Aside from the spanking, do you really consider that parenting?  They are 9 and 11 and they are not acting out, they are either not capable of or not interested in training.  That is not something requiring that style of discipline.

Greg: Thank you.  I have never felt that either of my kids needed to be spanked (12yo + 19 month old) and prior to this question I had never given any conscious thought towards my personal opinion on the subject.  After giving it some thought, I really don't have an issue with parents spanking their children provided they are not beating the c**p out of them in the process even though I don't think I would chose to do that with my own kids.

  10. hahaha spanking his kid on the "buttocks" for flipping someone the bird. that has nothing to do with the rest of the story
