  1. Patch Adams' idea for healthcare is to treat the patient, not the illness. Keep the mind healthy and the body would follow suit. Modern medicine has gotten so far into just treating disease that it doesn't treat the patient. Drugs are given to alleviate something. Side effects are caused from the drug and so a new drug is given to treat the side effects, and so on, and so forth. If modern medicine would treat the patient and find the root of the disease to treat that then society would be much happier and healthier, and the people of society, not to mention the government, would save a ton of money every year. People would not be so pumped full of drugs all the time or natural remedies could be used. Grandma always had something that worked for whatever your ailment, right?? It's no wonder all the women who feel the need to go through fertility treatments in order to get pregnant. Their bodies wouldn't be so messed up in the first place if it weren't for all the drugs that get pumped into our bodies via medications and our food supply. How many people in your grandma's day had problems getting pregnant?? Not reallly any.

I could go on for days about this topic as I feel very passionate about it, but I will end here to keep your ear (or eyes from reading! lol) from falling off.

  2. well one thing I recall was him saying he would be open to alternative health, to people working of their bills if unable to pay, in patients helping other patients in loving ways which helps than both, in touching more and laughing more

it is not so much medicine and health care but his unique modalities of delivery and creative thought and thinking outside the box

Happy, well, caring, care for people who feel important to someone enough to go that extra miles trying to make it fun tend to in themselves be more motivated to give in kind and that pay it forward things, done by millions of people in itself would create the social change that might change society itself..merely modeling creativity and thinking outside the box begets more of that,

Taking the profit out of health care would I believe help improve our national health as would using alternative health..With a profit based system, TPTB likes it when the water is bad, the food c**p,the plants genetically modified, mercury pumped in the air, crime high, etc as all these all wreck people's health..the more you are in doctor's offices and taking their test, the more chance they can talk you into lifelong drugs..when profit is involved in the delivery of health care, they love drugs like insulin that must be taken forever, they can market directly to the public playing on their fears, they can fold medical journals by withdrawing advertising dollars for their drugs that dare to publish studies showing the effectiveness of cheap, safe, effective herbs, they can stifle cures for cancer as it employs so many..cancer for instance..what happens to all the chemo drug makers, the expensive radiation machines the hospital and doctors surgery fees, the mammogram machines an so forth..this could encourage people to fight for better health care and effect all kinds of changes in businesses that currently pollute or drug companies falsifying and hiding dangerous test results to protect their millions of dollar investment in trying to get a drug.

    approved.

Unfornately, with the billions upon billions at stake patch and us will neer get the kind of health care we desire an could truly benefit from/

  3. You've already received a couple of great, thoughtful answers. I'll add that he brought the humanity back to health care, healing back to medicine. Just in being who he was, and not compromising to a political, materialistic, dehumanizing system.
