Question:

Patents and the environment?

What can be done about patents and copyrights that stop environmentally beneficial products from reaching a global market. Examples include the the rumoured water engine Ford purchased and shelved, and a mixed plastic recyling technique owned by a tiny Midland company.

Patents seem to be detrimental to global environmental solutions.

  1. You would be supprised at the amount of patents that are bought out but large multinational companies to be held and nothing done with them.

One example was a battery that outlasted other batteries at least ten fold.  Because of this it was bought out and will never be seen again.  Large companies rely on us re-buying this such as batteries.

If you look into certain patents and reserch hard you can find who have purchased them and reasons why.

Not sure on the water engine but if it was true then oil companies wouldn't like that getting to the open market.

  2. These things are as true as the carburetor that goves 200 miles per gallon of gas.

These are all urban ledgens, invented by people who like to cause trouble.

No car can run on water.

  3. generally these example that seem to offer something for nothing are untrue.

However there is a real issue in areas like Genetic Modification and Genome research. These are part of a process of putting control of our food & health systems into the hands (banks) of a few global mega-corps.

eg the Neem tree used for centuries as a relativly safe freely available insecticide is now patented by a US company.

  4. What was said before is true. These things are either urban legends or sometimes made up for some political reason.
