Paternity leave query..

My wife gave birth on 080808 she was due 020808, as I am on annual holiday at the moment upto the first of september does that mean as the baby was born during my holiday I cant have paternity leave? Am a teacher and thus school starts again on the 1st sept for me so feel bit cheeky asking. My baby comes home tommorow as had to go into special baby care ward but all seems ok now hence finally coming home tommorow. Because of the babys birth problems/lateness of arrival would like bit more time with her but as I say not sure if I can ask for it a few weeks after shes been born is it supposed to be from birth date?

thanks

  1. that might be a question for your employer

  2. Yes you are still entitled to the paternity leave. If it was the other way around and you had peternity leave and then added a few extra days on out of your holidays that would be ok so it should be ok, especially as your baby has needed extra care aswell which can take away some of your bonding time, paternity leave is all about bonding with the baby and everyone is more than entitled to this. I'm sure your school will understand as a babies arrival can be quite unpredictable and it's not like you planned it!

    Hope this helps

  3. You should ask your boss.

  4. You can take the paternity leave of 2 weeks as late as 6 weeks after the birth, but it must finish 56 days after the birth. I can't work out if that falls in the right range but it looks like it does.

    Good Luck with baby

  5. your wife gave birth 6 months LATE ?

anyway you should just call the school i think you still get time off
