Paternity pay?

How much Paternity pay does my employer have to pay me for (Not Statutory).

I have been told by my company that they will pay for 3 days, however somebody I know has told me that they legally have to pay me for a full week.

Is there a link on the web to the information? I have tried the direct.gov web-site but this doesn't seem to cover how much my employer has to pay for

  1. Have a look at this site:

    http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/act...

It provides a 'paternity leave' allowance and pay calculator. Answer all the questions and it identifies your statutory rights. Note that the employer does not have to pay you any more than statutory paternity pay unless your employment contract states that they will do so.

  2. I think it vaires from company to company

We both work for Norwich Union, and my husband gets 2 weeks full paid.  Our baby is due Dec 9th, so he'll take some holiday over Xmas too, and hopefully get about a month home with me!

  3. I can't link any sites or quote figures but my other half was entitled to two weeks paternity leave, one week paid. They also allowed him two weeks as holiday leave so in total he had 4 weeks off, 3 weeks paid.

It is really important you investigate this further, the first few weeks of babys life is vital bonding time, plus your lady could feel very tired and poorly.

I suggest you go into your local citizens advice bureau, they will be able to give you all the facts you need and help you no end.

Good luck with the baby, they are great!

    Take care, all the best.
