Patience helps Mika Miyazato remain in contention at Hoylake
Japanese Mika Miyazato shot an overall 290 at the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 to take the fourth position on the leaderboard.
The Ricoh Women’s British Open, a major championship both on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour, saw Miyazato display a solid performance in the first three
rounds, but a 77 in the fourth round took a toll on her overall position.
Although happy with her performance, the Japanese golfer was keen to point out that the ball moving remained the biggest hurdle because gusty winds kept most of the contenders from making calculated strokes.
Miyazato was one of the few players in the British Open 2012 roster, who did not let bad weather dampen their spirits.
During her interview at the end of the final round, the LPGA phenom said she was glad she remained in contention till the last moment of the major battle, but she attributed her solid performance to patience.
Miyazato said that she knew that the only thing that could help her stay ahead in the field was patience, because the unpredictable weather already hurt players’ confidence and strength.
“I was patient out there, and I got a fast start.  No. 18, I hit to about 30 sent meters, close to the pin on my third shot from 30 yards.  I hit 58,” she said.
Speaking of her performance in the second round, Miyazato said that her overall performance was better but there were some holes that troubled her. She said that the third hole seemed to derail her from the
track but she was quick to rebound by shooting birdies on the fifth and eighth hole.
“Third hole is -- I hit a hybrid second shot, pulled it a little bit left and I hit a third shot -- but I ended up putting.  Then par putt was like 15 feet. 5, I hit 5-wood.  I went into left side of the bunker,
then just laying up and then 55 yards to the pin.  I just made it,” the Japanese golfer said at the end of the second round.
Miyazato has been performing well in the current season as she racked up maiden LPGA title at the Safeway Classic 2012.
