Patio/Paver Issue?

I am in the process of making a patio. The question that I have is this. The pavers are kind of dirty. I'm wondering if I should wash them before I put the sand on them or after. Any assistance would be really appreciated.

depending on how dirty they are...like if they have oil on them or something...but dirt will not make a difference....

Install and then clean and seal.
