We signed a contract to get our patio built. Our builder said we would get a discount if we paid in cash before the patio is built. Is it safe? Should we agree.

  1. Never pay cash up front, what if the builder goes out of business or does a bad job - you have no recourse.  A reputable company or builder may ask for a deposit but not the whole amount.

Think about this VERY carefully - I would not go with this person...

  2. Yes it's safe, as long as you don't pay it all up front, and is he is licensed and insured. I say that because if he isn't licensed he can not be tracked down. Also never ever pay for something all upfront, unless your in a mall! Hope that helps!

  3. Absolutely not!  I would tell him that you will use his services but you will only pay the CASH when the job is complete--and he should give you the cash discount.  Believe me in this economy he needs the work. If he doesn't agree, there is somebody who will.

Be wise...it's a buyer's market when is comes to home buying or home improvement. If you give him the cash upfront...you run the risk of him not doing the work at all or doing a shoddy job.

    Enjoy your new patio.
