Patipat, Nipitphon oust Ronald, Selvanus in second round of Indonesia Open 2012
Men’s Doubles team Patipat Chalardchaleam-Nipitphon Puangpuapech of Thailand reserved right to be in the quarter-finals of Djarum Indonesia Open after crushing Ronald Alexander-Selvanus Geh on June 14, 2012.
This second round match was staged in Istora Senayan Stadium of Jakarta and both pairs consumed their energies for 49 minutes to place concluding figures of 15-21, 23-21 and 21-19.
The Thai shuttlers proved their mettle in three hard fought games and emerged as champions after winning last two sets.
On the other hand, the Indonesians could not make best out of their initial advantage and crashed out of the event.
Ronald Alexander and Selvanus Geh played with unconquerable conviction in opening game and bagged first match point.
In first half of the set, they took some time to get settled and could not gain a comfortable lead until 8-8 but they established a decent lead with 11-9 before half time.
After the mid-game break, they picked up some pace and left their challengers far behind by reaching at total of 15.
They did not lose this momentum in final stage also and finished the race with six-point difference in 21-15.
However, the Thai campaigners stormed back in very next game and levelled match score to keep the contest alive.
Patipat and Nipitphon were bit cautious in start as they trailed behind until 4-6 but then they added six consecutive points in their total.
Meanwhile, the opposing team also made swift progress and managed to narrow the gap with 10-11 score before the interval.
The Indonesians dictated their challengers in third quarter of the set and placed a dominating margin of 15-12 but they could not go with same flow in final stage.
Their failure in six uninterrupted rallies triggered the collapse and they had to face a 21-23 defeat in second set.
Third and final set turned consequential and both contenders made this segment memorable by putting commendable fight.
They chased each other all the way to game point situation but the twosome of Patipat and Nipitphon locked the honour by registering 21-19 margin on the board.
Now the Thai team will face World Number eight Malaysian pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong in quarter-finals of the tournament.
