Patomsuk Pathompothong scheduled to take on Filipino Mike Tumbaga in a 12-round bout – Boxing News
Patomsuk Pathompothong, the current IBF pan pacific light welterweight champion, will take on a more experienced opponent in the form of Filipino Mike Tumbaga, in an easy 12-round bout which will be held on April 20, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at the arena situated in Chiang Mai, Thailand and the event is being promoted by Jimmy Chaichothchuang. The duo will headline the pay-per-view and the Thai fans will most probably witness Patomsuk defend his title
for the second time in a row.
Patomsuk, 28, has been in a total 18 bouts and emerged victorious in a total 16. The young lad has nailed 10 of his opponents via knockout and has just collected one loss in his career against debutant Khompetch Sithsaithong.
Since his last loss, the Thai proud is on a long win streak and collected wins over many impressive names hence creating huge upsets in the division. Pathompothong collided with Aussie Heath Ellis in a bout with interim WBC Youth World and vacant WBC Asian
Boxing Council light middleweight titles up for grabs.
Patomsuk outwitted Ellis and collected a majority decision in his favour to grab both titles. Later on, the Thai proud nailed the more experienced Indonesian Billy Sumba and again shocked the world by his impressive pugilism.
Pathompothong’s win streak continued and he grabbed his IBF gold after collecting a fourth-round technical knockout win over Michael Speed Sigarlaki and later on successfully defended it against Wellem Reyk.
His Friday night opponent, Mike, also known as the Tyson, has been in a total 29 bouts but exhibits a pretty tarnished resume with 15 losses and just 12 wins. Another facet that gives Patomsuk an upper hand over Mike is the fact that the Filipino has never
collected even a single win via KO.
Things get worse for Mike, 26, as he is going through a very bad phase of his career and has collected a huge seven losses in his last 10 bouts. The Filipino who has been in almost five to six title bouts, is coming from a unanimous decision win over rookie
Jomar Borbon.
The odds are clearly in favour of Pathompothong since he has a better resume with good win and knockout ratio, the hometown advantage and above all the motivation from nailing some of the top men in his division. The rest of the pay-per-view will be disclosed
later and some of the bouts are still to be decided.
