Manchester United’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231 has gone on to reveal that the Red Devils planned on attacking Arsenal’s weak full-backs in their Premier League match.
Arsenal have been having their fair share of defensive problems in recent weeks and the team was looking to take on Manchester United with central defenders playing in the full – back position.
Manchester United were well aware of the fact that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002, despite being good centre backs, often had their momentary lapses playing on the flanks.
As a result, United looked to exploit this weakness prior to their match taking place, in hopes of it helping it get the advantage over their opponents.
United’s first goal in the game, was evident of the fact that Arsenal’s full-backs just weren’t at the level they should have been at.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 went on to head the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net.
Had Arsenal possessed two full backs, they would have instantly blocked the move from happening and prevented the first goal from taking place.
When talking about the game plan that United had against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, Evra is quoted to have said: "[Our plan] was to put pressure on the left-back and right-back and that’s what we did"
"We had a good shape in the first half and played very well, but the second half was not the best. We did not [focus on Djourou], we just wanted to keep a good shape and hit them on the counter. We have done this many times against Arsenal. We don’t look
at the other team, only ourselves."
Nonetheless, had the Gunners been without so many injured players, they could have easily managed to match United in the game.
Arsenal managed to equalize later on in the game, but once again, conceded a silly goal, which would have been avoided, had the team’s original full-backs been present in the game.
All in all, it seems like the Gunners are now just waiting for their injured players to come back, before they can pursue a top four finish.
