Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has signed a new deal with the Red Devils. The new contract will see the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international remain at Old Trafford until 2014.
Evra’s future with the current Premier League leaders had come under intense speculation in recent months, after it was revealed that a host of clubs were in the hunt for the left-back’s signature. To make things even more intriguing, Evra had refused to
consider a contract extension, claiming that he would wait until the end of the on-going 2010-11 season to make a decision about his future.
However, it seems that the Frenchman has been convinced to change his mind. It has been confirmed that Patrice Evra has agreed to a new deal with Manchester United. According to the terms of the revised contract, Evra will get a hefty raise for his services.
The player will now earn a reported 90,000 pounds per week – a 20,000-pound increase from his previous salary.
A statement from Evra read, “Ever since I arrived at United, it's been a dream come true playing here. The fans, the players, the manager and the staff all work hard to make this club the best in the world. I have won a lot in the last five years, but I
want to win more and I know that's the mentality of everyone here.”
Evra was signed by Manchester United from Monaco in 2006, quickly establishing himself as a mainstay in the starting eleven. Under the guidance of manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the France international has transformed himself into one of the best left-backs
in the world today – something that the United boss was quick to affirm.
Sir Alex Ferguson said, “Patrice is unquestionably one of the world's best left-backs. He has developed into a key character in the dressing room and it is great that he has committed himself to the club. His experience and skill will be increasingly important
to us.”
Now that Evra has ended speculation on his future, the Frenchman will be fully focused for Manchester United’s upcoming Champions League encounter against Marseille. The two teams will go head to head on Wednesday, 23 February, 2011.
