You must mean her ex-FBI profiler boyfriend Benton Wesley. He comes back from the "dead" in the book BLOW FLY. Turns out he was just in a witness protection program.

There are 3 more Scarpetta books after Blow Fly (Trace, Predator, & Book of the Dead). Benton is in all 3 of these also. Cornwell is expected to release another book in Dec.of this year.
