Patricia Mayr-Achleitner conquers Dia Evtimova to move into final 4 – NUNRBERGER Gastein Ladies 2011
Austrian tennis pro Patricia Mayr-Achleitner eased past Dia Evtimova of Belarus 6-2, 6-2 on Friday to book her place in the last eight of 2011 NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies in Bad Gastein in Australia.
Looking for her first Women’s Tennis Association title, Mayr-Achleitner made a confident start to the match as she took the opening set with a loss of only two games. Displaying some high quality tennis, she denied her opponent
an entry back into the contest in the second set as well to complete her victory in straight sets.
Mayr-Achleitner looked to be aggressive right from the start of the match. Breaking the serve early in the opening set, she made a strong statement. Despite suffering a serve break on her very next service game, she managed to
press the accelerator whenever she was playing the big points. The Austrian broke the serve two times in the set to earn an impassable 5-1 lead. Holding on to her next service game with four successive points, she claimed the opening set in great style.
The second set also followed a very similar pattern as Mayr-Achleitner continued to play her natural game with freedom. With her incredible passing shots from behind the baseline, she created all sorts of problems for her opponent.
Breaking the Belarusian three times in the set, she strengthened her position even further in the match. Looking very comfortable on her serve, Mayr-Achleitner forced two consecutive backhand errors from her opponent to seal victory.
Mayr-Achleitner excellent 76 per cent first serve conversion combined with her astonishing attacking skills made it almost impossible for Evtimova to break the serve. She had her chances but she couldn’t handle the pressure well
enough to bag those crucial points. Making five costly double faults in the match, she really did not help herself.
Mayr-Achleitner has been performing decently since the year 2011 has started. In pursuit of her first ever WTA title, the Austrian will be looking to reach a career milestone on her home soil.
