Patrick Cantlay will now be seen at the PGA Tour as a pro golfer
The long awaited decision has finally arrived from Patrick Cantlay. After all the discussions and advice, Cantlay has finally decided to leave aside his UCLA life and become a professional golfer now.
At a press conference, at the TPC River Highlands he said, “I feel like it is time for me to play as a pro. I think it is best for my golf game, and that is just what my team thought, when I talked it over with my mom and my dad and (swing coach) Jamie Mulligan,
that is just what we thought would be best for me and my game right now”.
Cantlay, who is just 20 years old, finished at T41 in the US Open. He has been doing well during the year. He has displayed some excellent performances and managed to win a few tournaments as well.
Last year, he played in five PGA tour events and managed to finish among the top-25 in four of them.
This week at the Travelers, he has the sponsor’s exemption, but will need to play well in the upcoming events to make his mark.
The timing of his decision is already making sense. The boy appears to be intelligent enough to make his decisions in a wise manner.
He has exemptions for the next three PGA tour events, so he will be skipping the British Open.
Cantlay needs to do well on the money list in order to avoid the qualifying school. He said that he felt comfortable being a professional, so he took this decision to turn pro.
Taking their game to the next level can be a tough ordeal for some amateurs but for Cantlay it is not a problem. He has been performing well at the amateur level and his team has full faith in him.
A few weeks back, Patrick Cantlay became the first player from UCLA to receive the coveted Hogan Award, it is really a great achievement.
UCLA’s coach was full of praise for Cantlay. He was really impressed with the way his game has improved over the last couple of years and during his time at the UCLA.
