Patrick Crayton injures wrist on touchdown catch
For the next two weeks, San Diego Chargers quarterback, Phillip Rivers, will have to continue his quest for 5000 yards without wide receiver Patrick Crayton, who injured his wrist in the first half of a 35-14 victory over the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
Crayton was on pace for the best game of his career after catching three passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.
“It felt weird,” Crayton said of the wrist. “I sort of put my left hand out to break the fall [after his touchdown catch] and it bent back as I kept going backwards," said Crayton. “At the time I didn't really know what happened.”
The touchdown was right before half-time, and Crayton had an opportunity to see the reply shortly after the injury occurred.
“But when I reached the training room they were watching the replays and everyone in there was going 'Oooh, Ahhh,'” said Crayton.
Crayton is third on the team in receptions with 28, and third in yards with 514. The touchdown catch was his first of the season.
This is his first year with the Chargers after spending six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He has 224 career receptions for 3402 yards.
He’ll be missed by the Chargers offence, which is already missing wide receiver Legedu Naanaa and Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates.
The Chargers did receive some good news Monday night, when wide receiver Malcom Floyd returned to action after missing three games with a hamstring injury. He had two catches in the game for 24 yards and a touchdown.
Next week, the Chargers travel to Indianapolis where they will face the second-best passing offence in the league. The game is likely to turn into a shoot-out as the league’s top two quarterbacks, Rivers and Peyton Manning, go head-to-head.
