Patrick Gudauskas claims a comfortable win in Round 3 of the ASP PRIME Nike Lowers Pro
America’s Patrick Gudauskas made his way through into the fourth round (Round of 48) of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) PRIME Nike Lowers Pro after putting on a superb performance to claim victory in the 19th heat of Round 3 (Round
of 96) that went down at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California, on Wednesday, May 2.
Hawaii’s Kiron Jabour successfully made his way through into the next round of the competition as well after getting his hands on the runner-up place to accompany Gudauskas into the next round.
There was plenty of action in store for the surfing fans on the second day of the latest ASP PRIME event. The prestigious event title, along with the coveted ASP ranking points and huge prize purse had attracted a huge field of surfing talent, which included
both local as well as international surfers. A handful of ASP World Tour contenders had also arrived at Lower Trestles to compete for the gold, raising the intensity of the event even more.
The 19th heat of Round 3 pitted Gudauskas against Jabour, France’s Tim Boal and New Zealand’s Richard Christie in a showdown for the Round 4 spot.
Gudauskas displayed his smooth and stylish skills in the clean two-to-four foot waves that were breaking at the event site on Wednesday morning. Locking his first business-wave in the early minutes of the four-man battle, he threw a series of fast turns
to post a 7.17 on the score-board. After a long search for another decent score, he eventually got hold of a juicy wave in the dying minutes of the heat. Unloading yet another series of exquisite tricks, the American surfer added an additional 8.27 points
to his account to take his heat-total to 15.44 points. The score received no serious threat and thus served to seal the fate of the battle in his favour.
Jabour successfully made the Round 4 cut as well after scoring a 7.03 off his first business-wave and backing it up with a 5.97-point wave for a heat-total of 13.00 points.
Boal and Christie were removed from the race for the latest ASP Prime event title after rounding out the bottom-two positions due to their respective heat-totals of 10.74 and 10.13 points.
