Patrick Hyland defeats Carlos Fulgencio via eight round unanimous decision – Boxing News
Unbeaten Irish fighter Patrick Hyland was able to prolong his undefeated streak by adding yet another win to it. On Wednesday night, Hyland locked horns with Carlos Fulgencio in Rochester, NY, defeating the Dominican Republic fighter via eight round unanimous
decision.
The fight started with Hyland dominating the show with his huge rights and lefts, leaving the Dominican staggering in the ring. However, Carlos made it a mark to withstand the punishment by Hyland. After the fight, Hyland did admit Carlos is a robust opponent
who was able to take his shots yet bounce back.
“He is a durable opponent, I put him down and he got over it then I got a bit excited and tried to finish him off. I then decided to outbox him and if the knockout comes it comes,” iterated Hyland who was amused by Carlos’ courage.
Hyland first knocked out Carlos in the first round, dropping the Dominican to his knees but the bell saved him from being knocked out in the first round. Carlos got the time to recover. He came back strong in the start of the second round, yet fell victim
to Hyland’s brutality. Carlos fell for the second time in the fight during the second round.
Although the first two rounds were dominated by Hyland, the following ones went counted. Both fighters were able to exchange heavy blows and hooks. Carlos fell for the third time in the seventh round but again the bell saved him from knocking out. By this
time, Carlos had lost grip over his game, which was pretty obvious to Hyland. Carlos survived the eighth round but could not make it to the mark. The scorecards had Hyland as the winner with scores of 79-71, 79-71 and 79-70.
“I could have done a little bit better but I used my boxing skills and coasted through the eight rounds, I got the rounds in and that’s what I wanted,” Hyland added during the post-bout interview.
As of now, Hyland is looking forward to face the top-notch fighters of the featherweight division. When asked about his plans, Hyland added, “Come December or January maybe get a shot at Billy Dib for IBF title or someone like Salido, after one more fight
I will be in there ready.”
