Patrick Hyland manages fourth round knockout win over Frankie Archuleta – Boxing news
Patrick Hyland, the current World Boxing Federation featherweight champion, defended his undefeated streak and nailed the more experienced Frankie Archuleta, the former NABA super bantamweight champion, by collecting a fourth-round technical knockout win
in a 10-round bout held on May 12, 2012.
The ring for the bout was set up at Mid-Hudson Civic Center situated in Poughkeepsie, New York, United States and the above duo headlined the Saturday night event. The event was promoted by the duo of Brian Burke of Final Round Promotions and Bob Duffy of
Ring Promotions whereas the bout between Natasha Spence and Racquel Bailey co-headlined the showdown.
Patrick, despite possessing an undefeated streak, was seriously outclassed by Frankie’s experience. Hyland, 28, has been in a total 25 bouts and boasted 11 of his wins by knockout.
His opponent, Frankie, was entering in his 38th bout and emerged victorious in 27. He has nailed 14 opponents by sheer knockout and has tarnished his resume substantially by nine losses.
Also known as ‘The Punisher’, the Irish Hyland also possessed the height advantage and during the bout, used it optimally while connecting maximum jabs at a considerable safe distance.
From the very first round, Patrick dominated the bout by using his agility and did not allow Frankie to capitalise his mistakes. The American proud strived hard to overcome the Irish proud but his every single attempt was effectively countered by Patrick.
Patrick started connecting left-right combinations to Frankie’s body and face. The American ‘Frank Leroy Archuleta’ was unable to even defend himself in fact loosened his defence every now and then after receiving a powerful hook from Patrick.
This facet gave the young Irish brawler ample chance to connect more jabs, the reason why in the very first round Frankie got flattened on the ring floor. Patrick continued his onslaught and by his stunning jabs provoked the bout referee to intervene and
halt the bout in the 39th second of the fourth round.
After the bout, the proud Patrick stated, “I did good but I could have done better. The statement I made today is that I’m a contender. I’m 26-0 and ready for anybody in my weight class.”
With this win Hyland has strengthened his win streak to 26 wins and 12 via KO whereas Frankie has, unfortunately collected his third consecutive loss.
