Patrick Kelly takes halfway lead at the Boys Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship
Patrick Kelly of England carded a three-under par 68, in the second round of the Boys Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, to retain the lead, on Friday, December 28, 2012.
The tournament is being staged at the Biltmore Golf Course, featuring a total of 61 male amateur players from different parts of the world.
Despite suffering from severe conjunctivitis and nosebleeds, Kelly did not lose control over his game. According to him, he was not able to see properly from his left eye.
Yet, he played some brilliant shots on the course, to take a one-stroke lead over

Kelly got off to a brilliant start by carding birdies on each of the first three holes that he played. He then parred each of the next six holes, to reach the turn in three-under.
The back nine of the course witnessed him making a shaky start, as he birdied the 11th hole, prior to bogeying the 12th and the 14th hole.
Thereafter, he made a good comeback by recording pars on each of the next three holes, before earning another shot on the 18th hole.
Talking to the tournament’s official website, he said that he could have earned more birdies on the front nine of the course. However, the blurry eye sight did not allow him to putt well. Yet, he was pleased with his overall performance in the round.
“I’ve sort of got used to it and new eye drops have helped. I could have made at least three more birdies over the next stretch but instead I made my first bogey at the 12th and another at the 14th, both from poor bunker shots. Fortunately I was able to
get one back with a birdie at the final hole,” he said.
Talking about the course conditions, he said that precision will play a key role in posting decent scores in the remaining two rounds.
“This course really requires a lot of shot positioning and I’m learning that as I go,” the leader added. “Fortunately from the start I’ve had great pace on these greens, which are now getting really slick”.
