Patrick Kelly takes seven-stroke lead after round three of the Junior Orange Bowl International Championship
Despite suffering from ailments, England’s Patrick Kelly kept control over his game, to take a massive seven-stroke lead, entering the final round of the Junior Orange Bowl International Championship.
The tournament is being staged at The Biltmore Golf Course, featuring top-notch amateurs from different parts of the world.
Right after completing his first round, Kelly was taken to the nearby Miami Children’s Hospital after his nose started bleeding and he started suffering from cold and conjunctivitis.
He then had to visit the hospital again on Friday, after he started feeling pain in his ears. According to the doctors, he was suffering from an ear infection.
Yet, he did not panic and kept the momentum going into the third round. He fired a five-under par 66 on Saturday, to settle way ahead of his rivals on the leaderboard.
“It’s in my hands,” he said of winning or losing. “I’ll just try to play like I have been”.
Talking to the reporters after completing his third round, he stated that he was feeling well and was hoping to not to see the doctor again.
“I just want to go to my room tonight, get into bed, relax, sleep and watch TV,” he said.
He also told that his family was worried about his health issues.
“There was some worry,” he said of his family’s concern for his health, “but then I told my dad how the tournament people were taking such good care of me. The people here have been amazing”.
According to him, he was not able to see from one eye because of conjunctivitis. He said that his left eye remained blurry throughout the day and it was difficult for him to focus on his game. Yet, he managed to post an amazing score on the leaderboard.
He got off to a flying start by carding birdies on each of the first two holes that he played, including a chip-in birdie on the second hole.
He then lost two back-to-back shots on the seventh and the eighth hole, prior to gaining the momentum back by draining a birdie putt on the ninth hole.
The back nine of the course witnessed him card a four-under par score, which allowed him to post a 14-under par three-round score.
