Patrick Kluivert tips Romelu Lukaku to pick Ajax instead of Chelsea and Manchester City
Patrick Kluivert, the former Holland striker, was present to watch http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672 in the Europa League fixture between the Belgian club Anderlecht and Ajax, the Dutch Eredivisie side. Kluivert revealed he was not too impressed with Lukaku’s performance as
his side stumbled to a 3-0 loss to the Dutch outfit.
The 34-year-old went on to say how he felt the youngster should not move to a side like Chelsea or Manchester City, following rumors the Premier League sides were determined to sign Lukaku in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Kluivert himself has featured for top sides like Ajax, AC Milan, Barcelona, Newcastle United, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven and Lille. Apart from a widely experienced club career, he played for the Dutch national team from 1994 to 2004 and scored a total of 40
goals, making him their all time leading goal scorer.
However, he felt the 17-year-old youngster would have a better chance of developing at a side like Ajax as compared to Chelsea or Manchester City, where he progress would be hampered by the weight of expectations.
Kluivert said he felt the 17-year-old Anderlecht striker needed to put in consistent performances in the upcoming seasons before he could be referred to as the best player in Europe. He said while speaking to reporters, “However, people often forget that
he's only 17. It takes time to become one of Europe's best and he won't be among the absolute best next term either. He isn't the most consistent performer yet, but that's just a matter of time and experience.”
The former Dutch striker, who was named in Pele’s list of 125 greatest living footballers, felt the youngster would be better off with his former side Ajax. He continued, “If I were him, I wouldn't join a top European club right away. A club like Ajax would
be the perfect stepping stone for Lukaku, but he's probably too expensive for them. We should be very careful not to raise expectations too high when he decides to join a club like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 or Manchester City.”
Lukaku was nicknamed the “new Drogba” following impressive displays by the youngster and he was linked heavily with Premier League defending champions Chelsea during the last transfer window. The Blues have known to be keeping an eye on the youngster for
the while and received some encouraging signs when he player himself admitted his wish to play for them. Anderlecht however are in no hurry to let go of the player anytime soon and rejected an offer from the London side.
Despite only being 17, Lukaku has managed to make his way into the senior Belgian international side. The youngster is currently into his second season with Anderlecht having already scored 14 goals; he managed 19 in his first season. The striker is expected
to cost an estimated £30 million, a price the Blues will gladly pay.
