Patrick Majewski knocks out Chris Fitzpatrick in fifth round - Boxing news
Patrick Majewski, the former WBO NABO middleweight champion, collected an impressive fifth round technical knockout win over Chris Fitzpatrick, in a 10-round bout held on July 7, 2012, becoming the owner of the vacant NABF middleweight title.
The showdown was organised and promoted by J Russell Peltz of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Incorporation. The above duo headlined the fight card whereas the six-round non-title light welterweight bout between Naim Nelson and Esteban Rodriguez co-headlined the
event.
Unfortunately, the bout, which was anticipated to be an explosive one, did not mesmerise the crowd present at the Bally’s Atlantic City Arena situated in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States.
One can denote the halting of the bout as a hasty decision but at the end of the day it was Patrick who grabbed yet another win to solidify his newly constructed streak. Majewski, who collided with Jose Miguel Torres in a 10-round dual title bout, unfortunately
succumbed to Jose’s superior skills and lost the clash.
Since then Patrick, also known as ‘The Machine’, has entered the ring once against Antwun Echols. The engagement was a success and Majewski came out victorious via third round technical knockout.
Patrick was seriously concerned about the fact that any pugilist can replicate Jose’s game plan and therefore can stun him to grab a win. In order to avoid such scenario, Patrick concentrated on enhancing his defence, an aspect which was visible throughout
the bout with Chris.
With the vacant NABF middleweight title on the line, Patrick entered the ring and set the pace of the bout. Chris did not allow Patrick to do so and stunned him with some early powerful jabs.
The polish proud made a comeback in the second round and retaliated with great force so much so that the end of the round witnessed Chris all bloody with a big cut under the left eye.
The ‘Irish Ghost’ Fitzpatrick was unable to continue with the blood gushing out and the cut increasing with every well placed jab thrown by Patrick. As a result, the bout-referee called in the designated doctor and asked him to undergo a thorough examination
of the injury.
The bout-doctor advised the cancellation of the bout as a result Patrick was denoted as the winner and the new owner of the vacant title. After the bout Patrick while sharing his thoughts stated, “I wish it would have gone to a better conclusion for the
fans. He was a good fighter but I am learning with each fight. I was working on my defence and it worked well.”
With this win Patrick has collected his 19 victory and 13th via knockout whereas Chris has unfortunately received his second career and first ever knockout loss.
