Patrick Makau depicts his commitment at Rotterdam Marathon
Kenyan marathon runner Patrick Makau displayed his acute commitment to success as he reached the finishing line in just 2 hours, 5 minutes and 8 seconds at the Rotterdam Marathon. After winning the marathon, Makau took off his shoes and showed his completely
drenched socks due to Sunday’s adverse weather conditions at the marathon. The player revealed that his socks were wet even before the first 100 meters of the race. Drenched and bunched up socks is something that can easily take on an athlete’s mind causing
an instant loss of concentration, but Makau proved to be made up of sterner material.
When asked about his views, Makau shared that had his saturated shoes and socks posed any problems for him during the race, he would have gotten rid of them right away. However, in order to avoid any serious problems, the Kenyan said that he avoided stepping
in where there was a lot of water on the road. The city of Berlin witnessed a lot of rain on Sunday. Each time he had to cross wet roads, he would stay behind the rest of the group to avoid the water.
Praising the athlete and applauding his consistent approach to win the marathon, Makau’s manager revealed opined that he was very methodical, focused and consistent. Unlike other Kenyan athletes, when Makau made a plan, he would stick to it. The manager
added that Makau was a good planner, that is, while he was competing at his first marathon, he had already planned about the following three races.
The manager told that Makau had always preferred living in solitude as this had helped him following his well worked routine. “His serious attitude towards the sport has always been intimidating and admiring for rest of the guys. Photographers have always
been longing for him and requesting him to smile, but Makau is a guy who only smiles once the race is over,” said his manager.
If we ponder upon the performance of Makau, he certainly has great reasons to smile. He has got all the patience that keeps an athlete focused during the nerve testing marathons. Recently, while outdoing two of his closest rivals, Geoffrey Mutai and Bazu
Worku, Makau placed himself as the 11th fastest marathon runner in the history of the sport. Lately, Makau made it to the third fastest during the year when he crossed the finishing line in just 2 hours, 4 minutes and 48 seconds culminating in winning
the Rotterdam Marathon back in April. While commenting over his marvelous success, Branson said that winning the Rotterdam Marathon was crucial for Makau as it showed that he has established himself as a serious marathoner.
When Makau was himself asked about whether he had ever feared about losing the race, particularly at the final kilometers where competition got stiffer, and where concentration and tiredness set in, Makau opined that he had always believed in knowing his
opponents. He said that he knew all of his close rivals and how they ran in the race. He further added that in order to maintain focus in the race, one needed to be strong in the mind as people tend to surrender during the last few kilometers.
Commenting on the factors which affect the stamina of the athletes during the race, Makau said that nothing affects an athlete more than the weather. As the weather gets colder, it becomes hard for the athletes to stay warm, to stay focused and consequently
it becomes hard to keep the same concentration levels intact. For newer players, watching experienced runners feeling fresh near the finishing line comes as a major setback. They tend to accept their defeat without realizing that had they showed a bit more
persistence, they could have made it with grace.  Lastly, he said that runners from Africa are not trained to run in rain. As soon as they encounter the heavy weather, they tend to get slower, feel tired and are resultantly left behind.
