Patrick Mendy becomes the youngest Prizefighter series champion

Patrick “Tiger” Mendy on Wednesday night beat all prizefighter champions as he won the Super Middleweight title at York Hall. The 19-year-old rookie won his greatest achievement after he defeated Sam Horton in the quarter-finals. He then beat Daniel Cadman in the semi-finals to qualify for the biggest match of his career. The teenager from Maidenhead was the youngest boxer ever to enter the tournament as he later made history by winning the title. The tournament was held for one night only and the temperature kept on rising after each fight. The tournament included some brutal fights and attracted the entire attention of the crowd.

Patrick Mendy won his quarter-final match against Sam Horton in just one minute and 26 seconds. It was the shortest fight of the tournament as the referee stopped it after Horton received a heavy beating from Mendy. Patrick Mendy hit a powerful punch to Horton and then locked the fighter to a corner and hit him brutally, knocking him down on the matt. Mendy fought against his semi-final opponent Daniel Cadman later in the evening. Cadman had qualified for the semi-finals after defeating Birmingham’s Eddie McIntosh in the quarter-finals. Cadman showed a tough fight against Eddie and hit him with some strong punches. McIntosh failed to sustain Cadman’s pressure and at last, submitted to the fighter. With the win, Cadman booked a victory in his semi-finals match against Mendy.

Patrick Mendy went into his next battle against Daniel Cadman in the semi-finals. Cadman, who received a punch in the eye during his quarter-finals match, entered the ring with a bulging eye. Mendy on the other hand was looking to finish the job quickly as he previously did against Dudley’s Sam Horton. Mendy quickly went after Cadman with heavy punches whereas the 29-year-old tried to avoid the blows. Cadman soon jumped back in the match and started to hit his own punches and made problems worse for the rookie. At the start of the second round, Cadman swiftly moved forward and started thrusting Mendy. Mendy in the final round of the match took control as he hit a sharp left jab to Cadman. Although the 29-year-old fought back with a couple of right and left jabs but still Mendy kept on throbbing Cadman and in the end won the match by an unanimous decision.

Patrick Mendy moved to the final against Northampton fighter Paul David. David previously defeated Carl Drake in the quarter-finals and then Jeff Evans in the semis. David knocked out Carl Drake by hitting a deadly upper-cut in the final round of his quarter-final match and sealed a place in the semi-finals. In his semi-final match against Welshman Jeff Evan David, he showed some immense skills in the ring and fought one of his brutal fights of his career. The six-feet tall threw some heavy punches on the Welshman and in the end won with an agreed result. The final between rookie fighter Patrick Mendy and veteran Paul David was a wary issue. David had a height advantage where as Mendy was swift like a tiger in the ring. Both the boxers started throwing heavy punches on each other and tried to knock the opponent down. Mendy kept on pounding David with his punches and thus impressed the judges with his fighting ability in the ring. David tried to stop Mendy a couple of times but was not able to battle out of the fight. In the end, Mendy won the match with his record breaking results and points which he scored in the match.

With this win, Mendy became the youngest Prizefighter champion. Mendy not only held a trophy but also he received a winners’ check of £32,000. This win would help Mendy a lot in his career and it would provide plenty of confidence to the young rookie.
