Patrick Sharp gets another overtime game-winner lifting Chicago Blackhawks over San Jose Sharks 3-2
It looks like Patrick Sharp loves making game-winners, especially when his team needs them the most as he scored the overtime decider, lifting Chicago Blackhawks in overtime over the San Jose Sharks, 3-2, on Sunday night, December 11, 2011, at the sold-out United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
"We stole it in overtime," Sharp said. "It wasn't the prettiest game, but it's what we'll have to do down the stretch the rest of the way -- win games like that, find a way to win the ugly ones."
Jamie McGinn scored the opening goal of the game as he potted his sixth of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, with less than four minutes to go in the first period.
Marcus Kruger followed up by equalising the game at the 7:53 mark and setting the score straight to keep Chicago alive in the contest.
Justin Braun potted his first of the season to take the lead once again for San Jose Sharks on an open opportunity found by Brad Winchester.
"It was a pretty emotional goal," Sharp said. "It was tough to focus on hockey with so much going on back home. We have a great locker room. It's pretty easy to turn things off when you come to the rink, but I was space cadet the whole game."
Entering the third and final period of regulation, Chicago was down by one and as the minutes passed by, it seemed as the Blackhawks would be having their two-game winning streak snapped, but it was Andrew Brunette who fired off his seventh at the 18:54 mark to level the game and force an overtime extension.
"It was a big win on the draw, made the play happen," Toews said. "It was a good way to get back in the game."
Overtime was also slow for both teams which were looking to score the game-winner. As the game entered into the final minute of overtime, Patrick Sharp took control of the puck and made the deciding goal in Chicago’s favour.
Chicago will be looking for its third straight win when it faces the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday, while San Jose Sharks will be visiting Colorado to play against the Avalanche on Tuesday.
