Patrick Vieira asks Arsenal to toughen up mix things up and sign bigger players
Arsenal legend and former Gunners captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrick-Vieira-c29316 has gone on to take up a role as a coach at Manchester City. However, despite having formed alliances with City, the French international still seems to be looking to help out his former team, as
he has gone on to advise them to land tougher players.
He also went on to state that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 should try and play a different style of football, since their flowing, passing game just isn’t doing the trick for the team.
Vieira when talking to the media about Arsenal and their problems is quoted to have said: “The problem in the last few years has been the physical difference between Arsenal and the other clubs.”
“This team plays good football and creates chances and it is possible to play football and win but you need to believe in it. Arsenal believe in it, but they haven’t managed to win yet.
“There is a big expectation now for teams to try to play like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, but there is a balance that every team should have, especially for the English game.”
Despite maintaining a level of respect for Arsene Wenger and admitting to just how hard the manager works with the team, Vieira has hinted that perhaps it is the manager’s need to play beautiful football, that has cost the team their trophy drought.
Vieira then went on to add: “Of course. But you can understand the situation of the fans. They are used to winning and haven’t won anything for six years.”
The Frenchman then went on to talk about the Invincible’s season and stated that the main difference between that Gunners team and the current team at the Emirates, was the physical presence, that those players possessed.
Back then, Arsenal had the players like Vieira running the show for them and as a result, it was close to impossible to win the ball of the Gunners. However, with the team now investing in younger players, who if anything are much weaker when compared to
the rest of the league, it is obvious where the team’s problems lay.
Arsene Wenger should try and take these wise words from Vieira as some of the best advice that he will ever hear, as he approaches the transfer window. The manager has been linked with a number of players, but apart from the defenders that the manager has
been looking at, the remainder of the players are almost exactly like the rest of the Gunners squad, quick, with brilliant passing and a keen eye for goal, but physically quite weak.
Hopefully before the transfer window comes to a close, Wenger will be able to go on and bring in the muscle that Arsenal so badly need, since http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-Song-c4804 (the team’s most physical player, along with the defenders), along just won’t be able to keep the Gunners
opponents at bay.
