Patrik Berglund set to carry St. Louis Blues to greatness –NHL offseason Update
St. Louis Blues centre player, Patrik Berglund might be only 23-years-old, but he certainly is capable of doing what even some veterans have not managed to accomplish throughout their careers. With a blast of scoring in his first and third season, Berglund
hopes to continue his hot streak and lead a struggling Eastern Conference franchise to glory.
Berglund might be very confident, but he is in no way cocky, something which his team is relying on.
“I had a great year, but I don’t want to stop. I want to be … this year, in five years; I want to be a player that is one of the best in the league. That’s my goal. I know I can get there if I work hard and things go my way. That’s my belief. I think it’s
important to have those expectations on yourself and not just be happy you had a good year. … If I play well all over the ice, the results will show. We’ll see where it takes me”, Berglund said.
Selected as the 25th overall during round-one of the 2006 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by St. Louis Blues, the Vesteras, Sweden native, went back to play with his hometown team for another year along with participating in the World
Junior Championships back-to-back.
In 2008, Berglund was signed on to his first year in the NHL and did not disappoint in any way. He scored an impressive 47 points (21 goals, 26 assists) in 76 games played and finished off with a plus-minus rating of 19 in addition.
The following season was a minor slump for the player as he managed to pot only 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 71 games, but made a comeback the next season by scoring 52 points (22 goals, 30 assists) in a near full season by appearing in 81 games.
With his quick accomplishments as a player, Berglund is still looking forward.
“I’m not satisfied. I want to keep developing”, Berglund said. “That’s the only thing I’m thinking about when I’m working now”.
Next season will prove to be either legendary for the young forward or either a disaster if he cannot manage to keep on contributing and taking St. Louis up in the ranks.
