Patriot Golf Day Fundraiser Tournament this weekend
The Patriot Golf Day campaign will be held from August 31 to September 3. This fundraising drive is focused on one charity, Folds of Honor Foundation.
The tournament will be played at the Coral Oaks Golf Course, located in Cape Coral, FL. the event is completely endorsed by PGA and USGA.
The Folds of Honor Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that focuses on scholarships to the children and spouses of military personnel killed or disabled while serving their country.
The scholarships are geared towards postsecondary education and usually fund college and university level courses. The drive has been immensely successful, partly due to the simple format of its fundraising activities.
At the Coral Oaks Golf Course, the golfers are asked to pay an additional dollar to fund the cause. This format is very innovative and does not force the players to consent to any vague terms.
The drive is nothing new. This is the fifth year of its existence and each year, the management reports a better performance than previous years.
The beauty of it lies in the simple fact that the charity does not ask its patrons anything beyond the single dollar. The patrons are free to give away whatever amount they can spare.
The charity was started by Major Dan Rooney, a resident of Broken Arrow, Okl. He was aware of the problems that the families of the veterans and deceased face, particularly when it comes to college or university level education.
The Foundation was his brainchild that was born out of his love of golf. He approached several pro golfers and the idea took root. Now it has flourished into a great idea that has helped fund many students through postsecondary education.
Tony Biata, director of the Patriot Golf Day said, “The campaign started in 2007, and to date we have given out over 3,500 scholarships. That's to over 3,5000 students, think about how many families have been impacted. We believe we are giving some hope
where there was despair, the least we can do for those who protect our freedom".
The foundation is still going strong and hopes to host the Patriot Golf Day in the coming years.
