The National Anthem is definitely a patriotic song and I know it is not customary for people to cross their heart, but shouldn't people running for office be held to a different standard than we are as regular people.

When I was in a VOFW(Veteran of Foreign Wars) meeting hall for a chuch dinner in Chatham, MA, I saw a flyer about a man from Texas who on the radio, said that being patriotic is crossing your heart for the National Anthem. The National Anthem came about from a war that we won. So we should cross our heart to honor that moment. It was the War of 1812. By not honoring it, are you wishing that the British had won and thus we would have had to surrender our newly independence from Engalnd back to them?

  1. Mike its all about Pride, and Respect, Our Elected officials

not matter if the believe it or not,, should at least look like

they do. Obama can't honestly say what he believes in, besides His Radical Islamic teachings.

  2. It is about recognizing someone else`s ultimate sacrifice so we can have the freedoms` we have today ! When you take your freedom for granted , and you assume your freedom has come from doing nothing , being self-centered , greater than thou arrogant , and taking advantage of the benefits  even though you had nothing to do with sacrificing for them , nor respecting the one`s "who gave all " ; then you shouldn`t be involved in any kind of activity concerning the welfare of the patriots that know why this nation was fought and died for !

  3. Yes, they should be held to a higher standard. Obama's actions concerning the National Anthem & the flag pin were very telling. Such disrespect & disregard for our traditions are a slap in the face to all red blooded Americans that have fought and died for our country.

  4. I am a disabled veteran and crossing your heart is in honor to our flag and our country.  So it got started then.  Big deal.  We need to honor our country.  And in doing so do not act like Obama who has no honor at all.  I wear a pin that honors our Lord and Savior, Jesus.  And since I am retired.  I cross my heart in honor of our country.

  5. Definately, when they play the national anthem you should cross your heart. To me, anyone who serves this country in any capacity, on a state or national level should show the utmost respect for our country, by acts of patriotism. Even the customary wearing of a flag pin is an act of patriotism and pride. If an elected official does not feel that pride and respect for our country, and the things that symbolize our country, they do not belong in public office.

  6. Obama and William Ayres DO wish the British had won because they surely don't acknowledge our victory by crossing their hearts for the National Anthem. Vote McCain
