Patriots beat Eagles 38-20 at Lincoln Financial Field – NFL Recap Week 12
An impressive performance by the American Football Conference East leader-board, New England Patriots, displayed all the qualities a team entering the playoffs should have. The players responded to the challenges well, sent, received
and kicked the ball whenever necessary to ease past Philadelphia Eagles 38-20 on Sunday at the Lincoln Financial Field in the week 12 game of the National Football League current season.
In their third straight victory, Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady, running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis, wide receiver Wes Welker, kicker Stephen Gostkowski and tight end Rob Gronkowski played their part effectively.
"It was more balanced today," Brady said after the victory. "That's how it needs to be. You have to run it. You have to throw it to everybody. We did a good job maximising all the guys."
Although Eagles had an early lead, their defence could not threaten the spirits of Patriots’ offense, which not only snatched the lead from Eagles, but extended it too far to chase.
Eagles scored a touchdown in the first quarter when LeSean McCoy completed a two-yard run. Alex Henery kicked the ball from 43-yards to put Eagles in lead 10-0. A four-yard run from BenJarvus Green-Ellis near the end of the quarter
reduced the lead to 7-10.
BenJarvus scored another touchdown, this time in the second quarter, to take the lead 14-10. Wes Welker came in action and received a 41-yard pass from Tom Brady to score second touchdown of the quarter and increase the Patriots’
lead 21-10.
Alex Henery attempted to fight Patriots with another field goal, but it was well neutralised by Stephen Gostkowki’s field goal.
The only scoring run in the third quarter came from Patriots when Tom Brady sent a nine-yard pass to Wes Welker, who successfully extended the lead 31-13.
Patriots managed another touchdown in the fourth quarter. Brady came in action once again, finding Rob Gronkowski from 24 yards. Jason Avant one-yard touchdown after collecting pass from Vince Young did not console Eagles, and
the game ended at 38-20 with Patriots victorious.
Yet another loss for Eagles has almost closed the playoffs-doors for them. They are placed at third spot in the National Football Conference East division rankings, and above them are ranked New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys with
playoff-hopes still alive.
Eagles’ fans are very disappointed and their frustration was reflected when they called for removing coach Andy Reid from his position. They crowd even chanted ‘fire Andy’ during the game.
However, a few players think that Andy is not the only one to be blamed for the loss.
“Andy's a tremendous guy," quarterback Young said. "I have the utmost respect for him. Fans don't understand some of the situations that goes on during the game. You can't put it all on Andy. We're going to always continue to keep
fighting hard, playing hard for him."
