Patrizia Kummer secures victory in parallel slalom in Carezza
Switzerland’s Patrizia Kummer collected her career’s second World Cup win by prevailing in the women’s final of parallel slalom that went down at the Pra di Tori slope in Carezza, Italy, on Thursday, December 22.
Germany’s Isabella Laboeck had to settle for runner-up place, while her compatriot Anke Karstens finished third to round out the podium.
Despite making really good time in the qualifiers, Kummer did not feel too confident before making her way into the finals. However, she managed to maintain excellent speed and control while zigzagging through the 29 gates posted on the Pra di Tori Slope
to claim her first World Cup victory of the season.
“I know that I'm fast in the parallel slalom. I didn't felt good in the qualifiers but still was quite fast. In the finals, it turned out to get better and better with every single run,” said Kummer. “I was quite nervous and was thinking too much. I had
to focus a lot to avoid any stupid mistakes. It was a great race. It's awesome to win the last race before Christmas. The shopping in the US was worth it.”
The Swiss rider may have been in the sport for a while, but only managed to get on the podium during World Cup for the second time in her career, standing on No.1 spot on both the occasions.
Laboeck and Karstens had not been anything short of impressive during the parallel race either and done exceptionally well to beat a line-up of extremely skilled riders to the podium. Both the Germans were quite happy with their performance and the result
that they walked away with.
The current 2012 LG Snowboard International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup leader Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli exhibited a pretty lacklustre performance and finished in sixth place.
The parallel slalom race in Carezza happened to be the last race of LG Snowboarding International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup in the year.
The thrilling LG Snowboard FIS World Cup action would resume next year, with men’s and women’s parallel slalom scheduled to go down at Jauerling, Australia, on January 13.
