Pau Gasol believes his days with Los Angeles Lakers are over - NBA Update
Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol has still not able to get out of his mind that Lakers tried to trade him for Chris Paul at the start of this season. That deal which was eventually shot down by the league – courtesy of the intervention by NBA Commissioner
David Stern.
Now with the 15th March trade deadline just a few days away, Gasol fears, his days in the Lakers are almost over and he probably would be traded.
"There's talks and rumors every day. Today I was reading it was Minnesota is really interested in trying to put a good package together," he said. "[Other teams are] calling, and it seems like things are just waiting for the right offer to come along, for
[the Lakers] to pull the trigger."
Gasol expressed his delight, when Paul’s trade deal did not materialize earlier as he wanted to stay with Lakers; however he added that it is not in his hands and whatever the leagues covets, that would happen.
"It's out of my hands. It is what it is. I'd like to be here," he said. "I'd like to make this team better and get back to a championship level, but it's not up to me."
Lakers new coach Mike Brown is under immense pressure to find a winning formula, and if that means changing of some faces in the team, he probably would not hesitate in doing so.
Gasol, although has performed decently this season, but not as efficiently as was expected of him. In the 29 games so far, he is averaging 16.8 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
The player was also recently denied him of his third consecutive All Star nod, which according to Gasol was massively disappointing. At the moment, Gasol is trying not to think about the trade and focus on his game. That’s a tough though, as Pau himself
admitted.
"Every day I tell myself, try to let it go. Don't think about it. Have fun, be the player you are out there," he said. "That's all that you can do."
Lakers still have a few more games before the 15th March deadline, so Gasol now needs to fire in those games to ensure the Lakers change their mind about a trade.
