Pau Gasol humbled by Kobe Bryant’s comments – NBA Update
There had been rumours about Pau Gasol being involved in a trade out of Hollywood throughout last season and they continue to make the headlines even now.
Despite all the trade chatter though, the only major change which has taken place in the Lakers roster has been the addition of veteran point guard Steve Nash. The legendary one guard was acquired by the Lakers in a sign and trade
deal with long time rivals Phoenix Suns, and the acquisition has formed potentially one of the best back court combinations ever.
This has put some much needed calm to the situation, and Kobe Bryant, who has been a keen supporter of Gasol for a long time now, recently came out to say that Gasol will remain a Laker as long as he himself remains with the team.
These comments coming from the man, who has been the main pivot of the tinsel town franchise for over a decade, go a long way to ensure Gasol’s future and the Spaniard acknowledged that gesture on his twitter account recently;
“Thanks Kobe! It's a pleasure to play with you game after game. Go Lakers!! #Team” – Gasol.
There are still no guarantees as to how the Lakers management perceive Gasol in their future plans, with Mitch Kupchak there never are. But, Andrew Bynum being the key chip in a potential Dwight Howard trade, the Lakers would like
to keep their front court covered with a big of Gasol’s calibre and experience.
At the moment, Gasol remains set to wear the purple and yellow next season and he can still be an asset for them. He did average a double-double per game last season, but such is the expectation of the Lakers nation, that whatever
Gasol does turns out to be less.
With the arrival of Nash though, Gasol will be an even more formidable force in the paint and is bound to find open balls down low, a luxury he did not have last season with Kobe Bryant running the offense.
With Nash being the floor general next season, the Spaniard’s class combined with that of fellow big man Andrew Bynum (or Howard – although that seems improbable) can cause havoc for oppositions.
